August 2010 Bethany's Fourth Annual Golf Tournament Held August 30
Honored at this year’s event, held at the Charter Oak Country Club, Hudson, MA, was the 2nd recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award, Pat Mahon. Mahon was recognized for his tireless dedication to youth sports in Hopkinton and the surrounding area, over the last 10 years. Highlighting the evening auction and awards ceremony, emceed by Lenny Megliola, was an appearance by NBA Hall-of-Famer and Boston Celtics’ great Tommy Heinsohn, reminiscing Celtic career highlights. April 2010 The Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR) organization grants Bethany Health Care Center a $25,000 award to benefit the religious Sisters who reside on Bethany’s two Rest Home floors. The SOAR award will be used to purchase two bathing systems. These tubs will be used by our women religious who require some assistance with their daily activities and healthcare. The new bathing systems will enhance the physical and psychosocial well-being of the Sisters who reside in our Rest Home and enable them to function at their highest capacity. March 2010 Bethany receives a Department of Public Health state conducted family of residents’ survey, addressing the overall care at Bethany Health Care Center. Out of a possible 5.0 score, Bethany received a score of 4.86 for overall care, as compared to a 4.17 statewide average score, 15% above the state average. January 2010 Bethany scored in the top 11 nursing homes in the country, as reported by U.S. News & World Reports which ranked America’s Best Nursing Homes. Data, collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, was based on 2009 performance of four quarters. September 2009 Bethany Health Care Center receives its 12th consecutive year of deficiency-free ratings from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) when measured against over 500 DPH standards of operation. Boston Business Journal Honored “individuals and organization that advance Greater Boston’s world-class health organizations” at the Boston Harbor Hotel on September 18, 2009. Among those receiving the 2009 Champions in Heath Care Award was Sr. Jacquelyn McCarthy, CSJ, CEO/Administrator of Bethany Health Care Center. Sr. Jacquelyn received the Administrator Award which recognizes an individual who is changing the way health care organizations do business. Under Sr. Jacquelyn’s leadership, Bethany has developed a Model of Care Program that has been distinguished for improving the quality of life for persons living in nursing homes and has significantly reduced the number of hospitalizations for Bethany’s residents. August 2009 Bethany Golf Tournament... Held at the Charter Oak Country Club, Hudson, MA, Bethany’s 3rd Annual golf event raised approximately $36,000. Heartfelt appreciation goes to all who participated and supported the event. The funds raised from the golf event will help offset operational costs associated with Bethany’s ability to continue to deliver 5-Star, quality healthcare. The tournament celebration dinner was emceed by WCVB-TV News Anchor and Member of Team 5 Investigates, Susan Wornick. Honored at the event, receiving a Community Award, was Retired Framingham Firefighter David Lumsden, who served thirty-two years on the Framingham Fire Department. Tournament Chairman Tom Carey, President of Jaime Oil in Ashland, praised Lumsden as “One who started at the bottom and was promoted through the ranks. He saved lives and took special care that those firefighters who worked under his supervision returned home safely to their families at the end of the day.” Please see archives for highlights of previous golf tournaments. Bethany Health Care Center Receives Five-Star Rating From the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services On December 18, 2008, USA TODAY reported that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released ratings for nearly 16,000 nursing homes in the United States. Of the 16,000 nursing homes surveyed nationwide, only 33 facilities received a 5 star rating in all four categories that included: staffing, quality, survey and RN staffing. Of the 433 nursing homes in Massachusetts that were evaluated, 72 nursing homes received an overall five star rating; however, only seven, including Bethany Health Care Center, received 5 stars in all four categories. Click here for the Bethany article. November 2008 Cultural Change Program Bethany’s fundraising initiatives focus on a Cultural Change Program. The program’s goals are twofold. First, to transition Bethany from an institutional environment into a more home-like setting for its residents. Secondly, to replace one hundred and fifty 45-year old beds with new beds to help increase the ability of residents to maintain their independence and wellbeing. The program was launched in the Spring of 2008, through the generosity of the Yawkey Foundations, individual benefactors and supporters of Bethany’s golf tournaments. Over $100,000 of the $314,000 goal has been raised, completing Phase I of the program. Phase I included renovating the Activities Center and main lobby, and replacing fifteen, 45-year old beds. April 2008 Bethany Health Care Center receives $25,000 award from Yawkey Foundations to launch its Cultural Change Program. The goal of the program is to transition Bethany into a more home-like environment for its Sisters and other residents who today call Bethany home. November 2007 Commendation… November 2007 – The Food and Nutrition Department at Bethany Health Care Center receives some of the highest resident satisfaction scores in the Northeast at Sodexho Regional meeting. “The Sodexho Team is committed to Bethany Health Care Center and the residents we serve each and every day. As Bethany Partners, we are part of the culture and a part of the Bethany team. Sodexho operations here at Bethany are seamless,” says Jim Argir, GM of Bethany’s Hospitality Services and Building Services. September 2007 Bethany Health Care Center Golf Tournament. September 10, 2007 over 100 golfers gathered at the Charter Oak Country Club, Hudson, MA to launch Bethany’s first annual golf tournament. The tournament honored the late Thomas B. Fitzpatrick who in 1916 deeded his Framingham property to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. That property today houses Bethany Health Care Center. The event netted over $46,000 that will help Bethany to remain an institution committed to providing quality long and short-term healthcare for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston as well as an ever increasing number of lay residents from the Metro West and surrounding communities
