Volunteering at Bethany

“The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.”

– DeAnn Hollis

How Volunteers help…

Bethany Health Care Center recruits volunteers from the community to assist residents in social interaction, transportation to programs, and supervision of crafts, games, and programs through its Volunteer Program. Volunteers bring special qualities, skills, and resources for stimulating and aiding the residents to maintain their interest in daily activities as well as local and national issues.

Who Can Volunteer…

We welcome volunteers from the community who:

  • Are over 14 years of age
  • Have a sincere desire to work with the elderly
  • Exhibit patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Are able to work with residents with a variety of cognitive skills

Your Goals…

In your relationship with residents, your goals as a Volunteer are:

  • To help the resident find happiness, satisfaction and enrichment in the present moment.
  • To reassure the resident and help them maintain a sense of their own dignity and worth through a feeling of achievement…even of little achievements.
  • To show personal interest, friendship and concern in the residents – individually and as a group.
  • To help preserve the faculties which are still active in the residents, and to help maintain residents’ level of functioning.
  • To serve as a link between Bethany and the community.
